Take-Two hunts down the leaker: DMCA requests against Microsoft, Discord, X and Google

The company is trying to uncover the identity of "CyberLeek", the source of the August leak, through legal requests to four major tech platforms.

The gameplay leak that preceded the Extended Look hasn't gone without legal consequences: Take-Two Interactive has filed DMCA requests (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) with Microsoft, Discord, X, and Google, aiming to obtain account data to trace the identity of whoever goes by "CyberLeek" — the person (or people) behind the unauthorized release of GTA 6 videos between August 18 and 25, 2026.

A hunt on multiple fronts

The legal requests aim to unmask accounts linked to the handles CyberLeeks, Surfer24k, and CyberLeekario, used to spread the material. As of now, according to reports, Rockstar hasn't yet definitively identified the leaker, nor fully understood how the breach that led to the footage leaking actually happened.

A total of 12 leaked videos

The initial August 18 leak turned out to be just the beginning: altogether, between August 18 and 25, 12 distinct videos reportedly surfaced online, apparently sourced from an older development build than the one shown in the official Extended Look.

Rockstar didn't let it stop them

Despite the leak, Rockstar confirmed the Netflix Extended Look would go ahead as planned on August 27, with no delay — and it did. Former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij publicly commented that the leaks would likely have minimal impact on the game's sales or the official showcase.

Why it matters: DMCA requests are a real legal tool, not just symbolic — if platforms cooperate, they could lead to real consequences for whoever spread the material, as happened with the 2022 leak and its author. We'll keep following developments in this story.
