How to prepare for the GTA 6 launch: the checklist
From pre-ordering to hardware requirements to catching up on GTA 5: everything you can do now ahead of November 19.
Less than three months remain until the GTA 6 launch. Here's a practical checklist of what you can do now to be ready for November 19, 2026, without leaving anything to the last minute.
1. Decide on an edition and pre-order
Pre-orders have been open since June 25: Standard Edition at $79.99 or Ultimate Edition at $99.99 with extra content from day one. Anyone who pre-orders before November 19 also gets the Vintage Vice City bonus pack. Full details on our Pre-order & Editions page.
2. Free up storage space
Next-gen Rockstar games require a lot of space — Red Dead Redemption 2 took up over 150 GB. It's reasonable to expect similar or larger figures for GTA 6. Check your console's free space now, especially since pre-loading (starting November 12) may require more space than usual due to high-resolution assets.
3. Catch up on GTA 5, if you haven't already
With GTA V Enhanced (the remastered edition of GTA 5 released in March 2025), you can enjoy the previous chapter on modern hardware with improved visuals — useful both for the story and for understanding where GTA 6 will improve on the series' foundation. 4. Follow official updates, not just rumors
As launch approaches, the volume of leaks and speculation will increase. It makes sense to stay informed, but it's good practice to always distinguish what comes officially from Rockstar and what doesn't — our News section always clearly flags when information is an unconfirmed leak.
5. Prepare your setup, if you'll play on PC eventually
There's currently no announced PC version (likely window: late 2027 or early 2028, based on Rockstar's track record). If you're considering a hardware upgrade anyway, prioritize a fast NVMe SSD and generous RAM — choices that hold up regardless of when the PC version arrives. Details on our PC requirements page.
